Melissa Sue Rosbottom, LMFT
When life shakes you to your core, it’s not a sign of weakness—it’s an invitation to heal.
My passion is helping people answer that call. Through EMDR therapy, I offer a space where you can feel seen, supported, and empowered to transform old pain into lasting strength.
- Deep clinical experience grounded in decades of real-life, real-world insight
- EMDR Certified, with advanced training in trauma, relationships, and transformation
- Come as you are: no judgment, no pretense, just a safe space to be fully yourself
An “invitation” from the universe…
Something that I have witnessed over and over is the power of an “invitation” from the universe to do some serious self-reflection, healing, and transformative work. However, it’s often wrapped in packaging that’s not rainbows or butterflies at all. More times than not, it’s a wake-up call that scares us, a major life event that rocks us to our core, nightmares that are stuck on repeat, or feeling so triggered from something or someone that we can’t shake it off.
Regardless of how it shows up, these kinds of experiences tend to get our attention! There’s a stark realization that something MUST change.
This is how change begins….
You start scrolling your phone for therapists or asking a friend if they know of anyone. With some luck or divine intervention, you stumble upon this therapy called EMDR. A friend has told you how much it has helped and wanted to shout it out on the roof tops to help others.
Then you do some research online about what EMDR therapy is and get the sense that it’s no joke.
It actually works!
Then the search begins for EMDR therapists that resonate with you.
You want a therapist that knows her stuff, but you also want a therapist you can be yourself around. If you need to curse, you can. If you want to bawl your eyes out, you can. If you need to crack a joke to ease the tension, you can…. no judgement… no pretense. You want to feel safe in their presence and in their physical space.
Last, but not least, you want to know they have lived experience – not just book smarts – and are able to put themselves in your shoes.
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Melissa “Susie” Rosbottom LMFT, EMDR Certified Therapist. I’ve been a therapist for 25 years in SWFL. What I bring to the table as a therapist is the freedom to be real and transparent, empathy, safety, twenty-five years of experience, and specialized training that allows us to get to deeper healing and transformation.
Working with people just like you has taught me virtually everything I know. Of course my formal education including my undergraduate and graduate degrees gave me the foundation to work in my field, but the wisdom has come directly from my clients. It also comes from my specialized training in modalities like EMDR.. Throw in lived experience of almost 50 years (wow, time flies) and doing my own personal growth work, this is what I bring to you when we work together.
Becoming a EMDR Certified Therapist was a serious game-changer for me. I see how it changes people’s lives.
A person can transform from feeling powerless, empty, and worthless to feeling empowered, connected, and worthy. You can work through terrible emotional pains of the past or the present and come out the other side to the best version of yourself.
This transformation can also change the trajectory of future generations. (I get chills just thinking about this). When a person breaks the cycle of trauma for themselves, the trauma cycle is broken for future generations.
For example, if you grew up in a house with addiction or emotional neglect, you might come out of that situation believing your needs didn’t really matter. This may result in you not setting appropriate boundaries for yourself as an adult, taking on too many responsibilities, neglecting your own needs, and being stressed and irritable with a tendency to take it out on the people closest to you. You feel guilt and shame and desperately want to get yourself under control.
This is what motivates you to make that call and do the hard work.
By taking a leap of faith, working with a professional you feel safe with and has the tools to help you obliterate those long-held negative beliefs, you heal from that trauma, free up space for that best version of yourself, and create healthy relationships with yourself, your spouse, and your children.
